"A LIFETIME SHAPED BY COLOUR, TEXTURE & FORM"
Originally from Burnley, England, David has called New Zealand home for many years and continues to draw inspiration from its landscapes and creative community. A lifelong artist — first picking up a paintbrush at age six — he went on to earn a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art and the History of Art.
David’s career began in the UK in London & St Ives where he was a member of the prestigious Newlyn Society Of Arts, he also taught at Kings College (Cambridge). David then continued his works in Christchurch - New Zealand, where he is working as both a sculptor and professional artist. His paintings lean toward the semi-abstract, influenced by the post-war abstract movement of St Ives and the expressive energy of American Abstract Expressionists such as Rothko and Jackson Pollock.
Between 2000 and 2010, David shared his knowledge as a ceramic educator at Kings College and the Worcester and Cornwall Art Colleges. Today, alongside his fine art prints, he continues to explore form and texture through his ceramics.
